Campaign Conversations: Texomans react to sexual assault topic throughout presidential race

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Sexual assault has been a topic both presidential candidates have used to spark conversations during their respective campaigns.

Recent tapes of Donald Trump making derogatory references about women has fed the conversation nationally and locally. 

"I think it's a very valid issue to bring up, just in the characters of the candidates," Will Kelty said. 

Some said the back and forth between candidates is turning them off.

"It's a problem I admit, and one that we need to address but the way that they're doing it I think is going about it the wrong way," Randy Baird said. 

But others think the topic being brought up is raising awareness. 

"I hope it's bringing to mind that sexual assault is more than just what people think. What Trump described is sexual assault and it's broadening people's minds on what constitutes as sexual assault," Jenna Horn said. 

Less than a month away from election day people's minds are changing. 

"I was supporting one of the candidates but now I'm seriously thinking about voting third party," Baird said. 

Newschannel 6 reached out to sexual assault advocacy groups in Wichita Falls to see how they felt about the sexual assault discussions during this presidential campaign.

One said they wanted to steer clear of making any political statements.
