The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee released the first set of regional rankings for the 2016 season Wednesday afternoon with Midwestern State appearing at No. 2 in the South Central Region poll.

Midwestern State is currently 11-2-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the Heartland Conference to sit in first place in the conference standings. The 19th-ranked Mustangs came in behind No. 3 St. Edward's, who is 12-1-1 on the season and second in the Heartland with an 8-1-1 mark. The two teams meet on the pitch Thursday to battle for first place in the league at Lewis-Chen Family Field in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

No. 14 Colorado Mesa appeared third in the South Central Region rankings with a 10-1-3 record on the season while sitting atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. No. 11 Regis followed in fourth in the regional rankings with a 10-2-1 season record for second place in the RMAC. Rounding out the regional poll was West Texas A&M (8-3-1) and Colorado Mines (7-4-3) with the Buffs currently third in the Heartland and the Orediggers fourth in the RMAC.

The top four teams in the South Central Region will advance to the NCAA postseason with play beginning in the second round due to only four teams earning bids to the tournament.

The top two teams in the region will host second round contests (Nov. 12 or 13) with the second round winners traveling west to play the regional final at the West Region's highest remaining seed (Nov. 17 or 18). The winners of the two regions will square off in the NCAA Quarterfinals to be played either Nov. 19 or 20.

Simon Fraser (B.C.) is the current frontrunner in the West Region, ranked fourth in the national poll with a 10-0-2 record. The Clan are followed by UC San Diego, Cal Poly Pomona, California State-San Bernardino, Dixie State (Utah), Sonoma State (Calif.), California State-Los Angeles and Montana State Billings in the West Region rankings.

The NCAA Division II Final Four is set to take place Dec. 1-3 at Swope Park in Kansas City, Mo.
