Mustangs climb to 11th in latest NSCAA rankings

Mustangs jump to #11 in Polls

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - After pushing its win streak to eight games including a 1-0 upset win over then-No. 3 St. Edward's, Midwestern State climbed eight spots to No. 11 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II poll Tuesday afternoon.

Midwestern State moved to 13-2-1 on the season and 11-1-0 in Heartland Conference play following 1-0 road wins over the Hilltoppers and Dallas Baptist to record its highest national ranking since the first regular season poll on Sept. 6 (No. 9).

With their fourth-straight undefeated week, the Mustangs placed themselves in position to clinch the Heartland Conference regular season title Thursday when they play host to Newman (Kan.) at 7 p.m. at MSU Soccer Field. The Jets handed MSU its lone conference loss this season with a 1-0 win in Wichita, Kan., on Sept. 25.

Regis (Colo.) became the highest ranked team in the South Central Region this week at No. 7 while St. Edward's slipped 12 spots to No. 15 in the national poll. Colorado Mesa also fell in the rankings, down seven spots to No. 21.

Wingate (N.C.) remained at No. 1 for the second-straight week sitting at a perfect 13-0-0. The Bulldogs were followed by LIU Post (N.Y.), Simon Fraser (B.C.), Charleston (W. Va.), Lynn (Fla.), Rockhurst (Mo.), Regis, Limestone (S.C.), Adelphi (N.Y.) and UC San Diego to round out the top 10 in the poll. 
 
Following its Thursday meeting with Newman, Midwestern State hosts Oklahoma Christian for Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. at MSU Soccer Field.
