WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) -

Two men are asking for votes this election season for the Wichita County Commissioners Court Precinct 1 spot.
Democrat Larry Donohoo is an Army veteran that was born and raised on a farm in Ohio.
Republican Mark Beauchamp has worked in the Wichita Falls Traffic Engineering Division for over a decade, upbringings both think make them qualified.
"I think my farming experience and the fact I've been all over the country and seeing other places, how they do things, and having lived in other parts of the country gives me a little bit of a unique perspective on what to look at here," Donohoo said.
"After 34 years of being in public service, I really enjoy the community," Beauchamp said. "It is a community that I love dearly. It has been good to me and my family. It's a great place to raise a family and I'm just looking for an opportunity to do more."
Both candidates have things they want to improve, one being the jail.
"Our current commissioners court has done an exceptional job over the past year of making corrections," Beauchamp said. "But were past the correction phase now. We need to get into construction and taking care of problems long term."
"I would love to be a part of building something nice," Donohoo said. "I don't know how a jail can be nice. But we need it and I think the county could afford it. But I also think it's going to be a very tough sell to sell the taxpayers, including myself, to raise our taxes."
Beauchamp and Donohoo also want to see county growth.
"We need, area wide, some sort of zoning for land use," Donohoo said. "And yes we need it for rundown properties."
"We have a wonderful place to live," Beauchamp said. "It is time to sell that to the rest of the world. It is time to bring in new businesses. It is time to make opportunities to make this community grow. It is time to look at what we can be."
Beauchamp adds instead of raising taxes to meet demand, he wants to be able to put more properties on the tax roll.
Beauchamp told us that he can accomplish things in Wichita County Commissioners Court Precinct 1 that he cannot working for the Wichita Falls Traffic Engineering Division, despite how hard it would be to leave that job.
He also added he wants to see the community thrive for his kids and grandchildren.
Donohoo said he recently took part in the Wichita County Sheriff's Citizens Police Academy to learn how things were done.
He believes the county does a good job but said it was part of what prompted him to run.
