WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Midwestern State's DeAndre Black earned Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following another brilliant performance in the return game Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Black, NCAA Division II's second-best punt returner, sprinted 67 yards for a touchdown during a 35-point first quarter barrage as the 13th-ranked Mustangs routed UT-Permian Basin 76-21.

It was Black's third punt return of at least 45 yards over the past two weeks as the Pittsburgh, Pa. native upped his season average to 24 yards per return.

Black helped MSU recover from a 21-0 first-half deficit last week at West Texas A&M with returns of 56 and 45 yards against the Buffs, then continued the roll against UT-Permian Basin.

He finished the game with 85 yards on three punt returns while also returning a kickoff for 38 yards.

Black has accounted for at least one touchdown in each of his last three games.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's Luis Lopez earned top offensive honors running for 92 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-28 win over Eastern New Mexico, while Texas A&M-Commerce's Uriah Harris gained defensive player of the week honors after returning an interception 85 yards for a touchdown in a 36-0 win over West Texas A&M.

Midwestern State takes on Tarleton State Saturday night in Stephenville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

With a little over a month till the start of the Wichita Falls Force inaugural season, almost all of the players have made it to Texoma and they are excited to get started. "I think it will just be fun to be a part of the community," defenseman from Colorado Granger Blach said. "Get out there, have fun playing hockey all the time. Calling Davis’ retirement unusual may be an understatement, but it’s a much kinder term than his teammate Lorenzo Alexander used.
