WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Midwestern State moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest Super Region Four rankings released Monday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Football Committee.
The top seven teams in each region advance to the postseason commencing Nov. 19 at campus locations.
One more regional ranking is set for release on Nov. 7 then the playoff field will be released via a selection show on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Mustangs, who improved to 7-1 with a 76-21 rout of UT-Permian Basin last weekend, would host a playoff game for the second straight year and for the third time since 2011 if the postseason started today.
Grand Valley State (Mich.) (9-0) holds the No. 1 position and would receive an opening round bye while No. 2 MSU (7-1) hosted No. 7 Ashland (Ohio) (7-2), No. 3 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) hosted No. 6 Truman State (Mo.) (7-2) and No. 4 Texas A&M-Commerce (7-1) hosted No. 5 Colorado Mines (7-2). All first-round games are set for Nov. 19.
Grand Valley State would play the Texas A&M-Commerce/Colorado Mines winner while the victors of the MSU/Ashland and Southwest Baptist/Truman games would square off in the other regional semifinal on Nov. 26.
The semifinals winners advance to the regional final on the weekend of Dec. 3 with the champion moving on to face the Super Region Three titlist the following weekend.
The NCAA Division II Championship Game is set for Saturday, Dec. 17 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.
Midwestern State takes on Tarleton State Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
