LAKE ARROWHEAD, TX (KAUZ) -

Texas State Parks waived daily entrance fees Sunday to recognize active and retired military members.

One of those state parks is located in Texoma.

U.S Air Force member Michael Fewell and his family made the trip to Lake Arrowhead State Park from Norman, Oklahoma.

"I served 14 years active duty air force and nine reservists," Fewell said.

His family spent the weekend camping at the state park and were excited to find out their last night was on the house.

Fewell appreciates the recognition he and his fellow brothers and sisters in arms are getting this weekend.

"It's important for us because it's kind of a thankless job sometimes. Some people like us, some people don't. It's good to hear the good things from people because sometimes you're away from your family for six months to a year at a time and it sucks," Fewell said.

U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corp veterans Tony Kitchen and Don Gosset were on the water early Sunday morning catching fish. Our crews caught up with them when they were cleaning their catch.

Both men fish at Lake Arrowhead often.

As veterans of our armed forces, both were happy to enjoy a pastime while being recognized for their service.

"You know anytime you're serving and somebody wants to honor you for it, you should take advantage of it and bring your kids out here and enjoy yourself," Kitchen said.

Officials with the State Parks Division of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said this was a way they could give thanks to the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country.
