Las Posadas Christmas Celebration held at Midwestern State University

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Dozens of people filled the Clark Student Center at Midwestern State University Friday night, for the third annual Las Posadas Christmas Celebration.

There was dancing, Christmas carols and even a reenactment of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter before the birth of Jesus.

The Midwestern State University Bilingual education student organization along with the Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative hosted the evening, and they said it is all about passing on their Hispanic traditions.

Paul Reyes, the President of Zavala, said the event brings a Hispanic Christmas tradition to life while also helping local kids.

“This is also to help sponsor biliteral reading, so we encourage that bond between parents and their children to read,” said Reyes.

Children who showed up received free books and a goody bag.

After the performance, everyone grabbed a plate of food and there was even a piñata.
