WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Cold weather is something most of us can escape at the end of the day, but others are not as fortunate.
With winter weather heading to Texoma the Faith Mission is getting ready for an influx of people in need of a warm place to sleep.
Since October, Faith Mission has been collecting items to make sure it was prepared for the winter season.
Coats, blankets, socks, and gloves have already been given out to those in need according to Faith Mission CEO Steve Sparks.
But when it comes to a forecast with several cold days in a row, more preparations are needed.
"We prepare ourselves for extra people on those really really cold days. (We prepare) extra food and make sure that we (have) enough in case we do have an extra crowd. (We) watch the weather real close and make sure that we're ready," Sparks said.
In the last five years, Sparks said they have never had to turn anyone away.
He said people have had to sleep on mats on the floor, but they were able to sleep in the warm building.
Three meals a day and hot showers are provided to those who stay at Faith Mission. On Wednesdays and Fridays clothing is also provided to those in need.
Faith Mission is in need of more winter wear.
Since those items are in high demand this time of year, they do not want to turn anyone away who is in need of clothing to keep warm.
