WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - A Wichita Falls native is said to be leading the race for the next Secretary of State.
Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson met for the second time this week with President-Elect Donald Trump.
Tillerson's career with the largest integrated oil company in the free world means he has plenty of experience negotiating deals.
But some say Tillerson could be a controversial pick partly because of his relationship with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
A local energy expert said Tillerson can bring a lot to the table for foreign relations with his oil industry background.
This is not the first time someone like Tillerson has been called to serve for a president.
"If you look at Vice President Dick Cheney. When he became Vice President where was he working? Halliburton, another oil and gas firm. So it would really hardly be the first time that a president of the United States has called on somebody with experience in the global oil markets to have a senior leadership post," Jeff Stambaugh, Director for the Dillard Center for Energy Management at Midwestern State University said.
Trump and Tillerson met Saturday morning. Following the meeting, Trump told reporters that Tillerson is a nice man but he gave no indication that Tillerson has the job.
Stambaugh said every day at Exxon-Mobil is a foreign policy day which could give him the upper edge against Governor Mitt Romney.
