WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - A celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe took place Sunday evening in Wichita Falls.
A Feast Day Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The mass celebrates when the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego in modern day Mexico City back in December of 1531.
Aztec dancers performed during the procession into the church and hymns were sung in both English and Spanish.
We spoke with an organizer from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church who told us why having this celebration is so important.
"I think it is important because we continue a sacred tradition. Pass it on to generations to come, and especially to keep it going so we can teach our youth, young children and families the importance of Our Lady in the church and in the world," said Barbara Cardona.
A mariachi band performed and a reenactment of the Virgin Mary and Saint Juan Diego's interaction took place.
In the story his cloak goes from a plain one, to have an image of the Virgin Mary. That cloak still exists today.
