WICHITA FALLS, TX
When it comes to snow and ice, the Texas Department of Transportation is working to keep our roads clear.
“We're running a fleet of 83 snow plows in the district across 9 counties,” said Adele Lewis, Public Information Officer for TxDot. “The main staple of all of our snow plows is our 10 yard which is our most popular version.”
This year, they added even more to their fleet.
“This year we have two tanker trucks at our office,” said Lewis. “They can carry up to 4,500 gallons of brine water.”
The new trucks carrying the chemical to melt the snow and ice can hold 6 times the amount of a normal 10 yard snow plow.
With more than 6,500 land miles in the district of TxDot, Lewis said these trucks were needed.
“They can go further, longer and hit more lane miles than what we are doing right now,” said Lewis. “They are going to be a great asset this year.”
