Guests at the Hampton Inn in Wichita Falls were roused from their beds late Monday night by the shrill sound of fire alarms.
Witnesses say smoke filled the second floor hallway of the hotel on Kemp Boulevard around 11:40 p.m.
About a dozen guests left their rooms and waited in the lobby while fire crews went floor to floor checking out the hotel.
Guests reported a strong smell of something burning, but firefighters found nothing on fire.
They cleared the hotel and allowed everyone to return to their rooms just after midnight.
