WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Right now, mosquitoes are increasing in numbers in Wichita Falls due to the unseasonably warm temperatures and above average rainfall.
A lot of mosquitoes were able to survive the winter and lay eggs.
According to the Wichita Falls Environment Health Department, you can prevent mosquitoes by following the four D's.
1) Dress in long pants, long sleeves, socks and shoes; 2) know that mosquitoes are out from dusk to dawn; 3) dump and drain any standing water; 4) use insect repellent with DEET.
"There are some people out there that have severe reactions and end up in the hospital," Stephanie Fonville, a Registered Sanitarian said. "So you want to make sure that you are doing your part to prevent mosquitoes in your yard. Get together with your neighbors so you can prevent mosquitoes in the neighborhood."
Fonville said if you do not remove and drain standing water, it can result in more mosquitoes.
She adds it is important to have screens on your doors and windows and to mow the lawn because mosquitoes will live in the long grass.
They want everyone traveling for spring break to be aware of mosquitoes and remember that some of them could be carrying viruses.
