WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The Wild Bird Rescue in Wichita Falls welcomed the baby birds of the season with their annual baby bird shower fundraiser.
While there is only one baby bird at the rescue now, organizers said that number is expected to increase soon.
Last season they saw thousands of birds.
They said it's important to have the rescue because otherwise, sick birds wouldn't survive.
"There is a huge huge need for animal rehabilitation in this area," said director Cassandra Shimpaugh. "Particularly birds we are the only people within a couple of hundred miles that actually do this. We took in almost 2000 birds last year so that proves that there is a need in this community for them."
The workers at the rescue nurture the birds back to health and in a few short weeks, the baby bird that was honored Saturday will spread his wings for the first time and be released back into the wild.
