Texoma kids bring awareness to tobacco use

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Kids at the Wichita Falls Public Library made a difference Saturday by raising awareness about smoking.

Hundreds of red flags covered the area all around the library.

The flags represented cigarette butts.

Every butt the kids picked up was replaced with a flag.

The reason why?

To raise awareness about where the  buried cigarettes end up.

"cigarette butts are one of the most littered items in the United States," said volunteer George Kennedy.

"It's just amazing to see tossing aside these things that don't go away," said volunteer Audra Kennedy.

The Wichita Falls Public Library has shown interest in becoming a smoke free campus.

This would make it illegal to smoke anywhere on the premises of the library.
