WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The first week of April is National Work Zone Safety Awareness week.
TxDOT is using this time to remind motorist to exercise safety as busy road construction season gets underway.
Nearly 200 people died in work zones on all types of roadways in Texas in 2016.
Most of those people were motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
In Wichita Falls there were 33 crashes in work zones in 2016. No one died in those accidents but TxDOT officials said the risk is always there.
The two leading causes of crashes are speeding and failure to stay in a single lane.
