WFHS student headed to Austin to compete in Texas Citizen Bee

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - A Wichita Falls High School sophomore is heading to the Texas Citizen Bee this month.

Daniel Portillo (pictured on the far right of the photo) is the Region 9 finalist for the 2017 Citizen Bee.

He will compete in Austin on Saturday, April 29th in hopes of winning a scholarship.

The civics education competition is sponsored by Law Related Education/The State Bar of Texas and is funded by the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation.

It is organized by the Region 9 Education Center.

This event allows students and teachers to study America's heritage, the U.S. Constitution, and much more in exciting ways.

Wichita Falls High School swept this year's competition with Aubrie Kuhrt taking second place and AlAntwan Kirk taking third.

Mrs. Wendy Presson is their teacher.

We want to congratulate them all and wish Daniel good luck as he prepares to go to state.
