AUSTIN, TX (KAUZ) - A Clay County sophomore won the State Championship at the UIL Academic State Meet in Austin on Friday.

Jon Walker is a student at Bellevue High School and was named the 1A Number Sense State Champion.

Walker not only won his first state championship but he also brought home the first championship in the school's history.

Walker's Number Sense coach Johnny Chandler has been with Bellevue ISD for 16 years and in education for 48 years.

Walker and Chandler worked very hard to achieve the success at the UIL Academic State Meet while building a special relationship along the way.

Walker also won State Runner-Up in Mathematics as well.

Newschannel 6 would like to congratulate both Walker and Chandler on their hard work for Bellevue High School.
