VERNON, TX (KAUZ) - The Vernon I.S.D. Board of Trustees will decide whether the school district will become a District of Innovation Wednesday.
The meeting is taking place at 6:00 p.m. in the board room of the Vernon School Administrative Center at 1713 Wilbarger Street.
According to the meeting agenda, the board will 'consider and approve the District of Innovation Plan and designate Vernon ISD as a District of Innovation.
This will come after a public hearing to discuss the DOI plan.
Childress ISD has been a District of Innovation for nearly an entire academic year. Other school districts that are Districts of Innovations in Texoma include Burkburnett, Bryson, Crowell, Graham, and Windthorst.
Wichita Falls ISD has approved a DOI plan for the district.
Becoming a DOI allows school districts to waive or be more flexible with state regulations, like school start dates, teacher certification guidelines, and class size ratio.
