WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District is raising awareness about second-hand smoke in cars. Second-hand smoke kills more than 50,000 non-smokers every year.
This campaign was started by one Iowa Park teacher who showed how children have issues of breathing with cigarette smoke in a vehicle.
"Actually one of the teachers drew up the concept about secondhand smoke in cars and she came up with the snorkel concept of children riding in the car in the back seat and they aren't able to breathe so they have to use a snorkel in order to breathe," health educator Keivin Swanson said.
Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds that are toxic and about 70 that can cause cancer.
Castaway Cove Waterpark is helping with this campaign. On May 31st from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. will participate in no tobacco day.
They want to remind you to protect your children and your family by not smoking or vaping in your vehicle.
