BURKBURNETT, TX (KAUZ) - An 83-year-old Burkburnett woman got a nice surprise Wednesday morning. Rosette Akens thought she was going to Burk Light Truck & Auto to pick up her car that was being worked on for the second time in two months.
But when she arrived she was instead introduced to her new car, a Honda Civic. Officials with Burk Light Truck & Auto said the cost to repair Akens' 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix would have been more than the vehicle was worth.
So they reached out to James Burden, with Burden's Towing, who donated the 1999 Honda Civic. Napa Auto Part donated parts for the vehicle at no charge and John's Paint & Body donated an alignment.
Think of I.T. and Dana Taylor of Wichita Falls also donated money to help with the cost of vehicle registration. Akens said she wanted to cry when she realized what was going on.
"I can't explain how I feel. I just feel wonderful," Akens said. "I want to thank everybody, everybody. They're so kind and thoughtful."
Burk Light Truck & Auto wants to continue to help those in the community. If someone you know is in need you can register them for future drawings by clicking here.
