WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) -

Work on the Wellington Road Bridge is nearing completion.

TxDOT officials told Newschannel 6 on Friday the replacement bridge is coming along and should be open to traffic in the next few weeks.

That is ahead of the original schedule of a Christmas completion date.

Crews are currently waiting on people to come out and stripe lanes.

The original bridge, that was demolished in January, had been hit by semi trucks multiple times.

This project is part of the $2.5 million contract to make the bridge higher and wider.
