Sheriff's office looking to hire detention officers

WICHITA FALLS, TX - The Wichita county Sheriff's office is looking to hire detention officers, and they could be one step closer after hosting a hiring fair to the community.
People came out to the Wichita county Emergency Management Center Saturday to fill out applications to get on at the Sheriff's office.
Deputy and public information officer for the Sheriff's office, Melvin Joyner said the Sheriff's office is in great need of more detention officers.
"There appears to be a pretty big size turnover," said Joyner.  "A lot of people get in there and they determine this isn't for me.  Some people get in there and they really like it and decide to make a career out of it, but those that go in and decide they don't want to do it, there is a constant turn over so naturally we're just having to requit and continue to fill those spots."
Deputy Joyner said the office is taking applications for anyone over 18.
He said no previous experience in working in jails is required.
If you couldn't make it out Saturday, Deputy Joyner said you can still fill out an application at the Sheriff's office.
