WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - A new housing subdivision is coming to the southwest part of Wichita Falls.
On Tuesday, the city council passed an ordinance annexing nearly 13 acres of land in the 5000 block of Gregg Rd. Once the subdivision is complete, it will be 157 acres.
City Manager, Darron Leiker, said annexation is a good thing because it grows a city geographically and economically.
"The first phase will include just under 50 new homes," Leiker said. "And in the future, that will increase quite a bit more. So this is good for the economy and the city."
The developer of the land created the Lake Wellington Estates subdivision, along with many others on the southwest side of town.
Leiker said because of the developer's previous work, the city is comfortable with this project moving forward.
