TULSA, OK (KAUZ) - According to KOKI Fox 23, a Tulsa teacher resorted to panhandling to raise money for classroom school supplies.
Teresa Danks teaches third grade for Tulsa Public Schools. Danks said serious education budget cuts have left her spending between $2,000 and $3,000 on school supplies for her students.
Danks' yearly salary is $35,000. She decided to ask for the public's help when current legislation did not appear to offer any help.
FOX 23 said Danks raise $55 in only six minutes. She told reporters that her unusual fundraising style is also about raising awareness to the budget cut crisis and how it impacts Oklahoma's education system.
She hopes other educators will join in her effort.
