Newschannel 6 Castaway Cove Day: Water Park operations

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

We begin our Newschannel 6 Castaway Cove Day coverage by looking at park operations.

"You want to make sure guests are having a fun time," said Steve Vaughn, Castaway Cove Park Manager.

At a large water park like Castaway Cove Vaughn, Vaughn says he's lucky to have a solid staff to work with.  Safety is one of the park's biggest concerns. Vaughn said that he can rely on his fellow workers to make sure things are running smoothly and that visitors will want to come back for more.

"It starts in the morning.  We walk around.  We check everything.  We have measurement lines to make sure that the water is at the correct depth.  We check the chemicals at that time, and then every two hours we're open, we check to make sure everything is safe and under state guidelines," said Vaughn.

Lifeguard Megan Vaughn said it can sometimes be difficult to keep an eye on all the water park's visitors, but that they learn and practice certain techniques to ensure that no one is harmed.

"In the wave pool when the waves are on, we're always standing up so that we can see more and watching as the waves come over to make sure that they are not knocking over any adults or children," said Vaughn.
