WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Wichita Falls Police are investigating a drowning at a residence in the 4700 block of Eden Lane.

Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning officers were called out to the home to follow-up on a missing person report for Shanikia Thomas, 26.

Sgt. Bill Henning told Newschannel 6 that Thomas was reported missing on Wednesday but was last seen on Monday at the home on Eden Lane.

The missing person report had been filed on Wednesday night around 11:30 p.m.

Officers went to the home on Wednesday night to look for Thomas but could not find her.

While detectives were searching the area Thursday morning they found a deceased body floating in a pool in the backyard of the residence.

The body was identified as Shanikia Thomas.  Sgt. Henning said the murky water likely hindered search efforts the night before.

Police said the home owners are acquaintances of Thomas and they have been cooperative with investigation efforts.

Her body is going to be sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

The case is under investigation. Stay with Newschannel 6 as we continue to follow this developing story.
