WICHITA FALLS, TX - Dads, sons, and even daughters were shooting hoops Saturday in a three on three tournament all in an effort to create a stronger bond between a father and his kids.
Hoops for Hopes was an idea created by the 24/7 Father Engagement program through the United Way.
The tournament was started to bring a common bond of sports, in hope that more dads will learn about the program.
This program acts as a mentor for single dads in the area.
The idea for a basketball tournament came from Alfonzo Holmes a single dad himself.
He said if it hadn't been for basketball, he wouldn't be the man he is today.
"I thought about it and that was one stable thing in my life that I had men mentoring me," said Holmes. "I thought about that how this is a good way to bring awareness to the program but draw men out."
24/7 Fatherhood Engagement hopes to have even more events that can mentor the dads out there.
They want their next event to be a car show.
If you want to get involved with the program dial 211 and ask for the fatherhood engagement program.
