WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Doors are open for a new Wichita Falls business on the east side of town. Family Dollar, on 7th street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, held a soft opening on Thursday.
Several residents said they are glad to have a store to call their own. Keith Miller, a resident of Wichita Falls since 2014, said he bought something in his neighborhood that he had not bought in a while.
"It's beautiful man, it's like really beautiful," Miller said. "It's good to see stuff like that. It's good to see the city not giving up just because it's got bad vibes or bad information from this side of town."
Miller said he does not want the Family Dollar to become part of the bad information.
"I just hope it stays in the good shape the ways it's in [with no] robberies or anything like that."
He also said he wants more businesses opening on the east side of town to become a trend.
"It reminds me of [a major] city so yeah I would like to see more come around."
Some shoppers said they are grateful they do not have to drive several miles to buy their groceries.
"The convenience is awesome," Sammy Gee said.
Gee said he now has a store close enough to walk his dog too.
"We don't have to go all the way to Jacksboro Highway or Old Iowa Park Road to get our household necessities," Gee said. "It's just so much more convenient."
The Family Dollar grand opening and ribbon cutting will take place September 12.
