AMARILLO, TX (KAUZ) - A quarter of a ton of marijuana was seized on Tuesday following a traffic stop by a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper in Carson County.
Around 2:00 p.m. the DPS Trooper stopped the vehicle on East IH-40 near Conway for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper discovered more than 400 bundles of marijuana hidden in a false diesel tank located in the bed of the pickup.
The bundles weighed in at more than 500 pounds. DPS officials said the marijuana is worth $3.1 million.
The driver, Ismael Cano, 26, of El Paso, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana. Officials believe the drugs were being transported from El Paso to Oklahoma.
