WICHITA FALLS, TX - The track at Barwise Middle School is in its next step in completion. Friday, crews were seen laying down asphalt for the new track. Once the asphalt has set, crews will paint the stripes.
Earlier this year, school board members approved a new six lane track to be put in at the middle school for just under $630,000.
Ashley Thomas with the Wichita Falls Independent School District said it will take about two or three weeks before for the asphalt to be set before crews can put down the stripes.
The original plan was to have the track ready by the time school starts on August 17, but Thomas said all of that will depend on how quickly they can get the asphalt set.
This is the 4th track to be renovated in the last 2 years at WFISD. Hirschi, Rider, and Wichita Falls high schools have all had tracks renovated.
This project is separate from the Barwise weight room project. Last month, trustees approved a bid close to $170,000 to build a new weight room at the middle school.
Thomas said the district is still in the contract phase of that project.
