BREAKING: Teen injured in likely accidental shooting has died

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

UPDATE 7:41 PM - WFPD released the following statement:

"The case is still under investigation but early indications are that this was an accidental shooting. The victim Brandon Rojas, 17, passed away at the hospital from his injuries."

A man who lives at the Cedar Creek Apartments said he was surprised to hear what had happened.

"We don't get those kind of calls in this community here and that really shocked me," said Felix. 

Police say they are still investigating this case and will release more information when it becomes available.

UPDATE: Investigators told our crews on the scene the victim is a 17-year-old man. Officials said he told officers he accidentally shot himself with a long rifle in the stomach area.

Police interviewed two witnesses whose stories matched the victim. Officers said the teen is going into surgery and was talking.

As of 6:00 p.m. the scene is still active.The Crime Scene unit got on the scene around 5:30 pm and investigators were inside the apartment gathering evidence.

The Wichita Falls Police Department is investigating what led to the shooting of a man on Monday afternoon at Cedar Creek Apartments.

Officers were called out to the 1500 block of Trigg Lane in reference to a possible shooting around 3:37 pm.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a man with a gunshot wound. That man was rushed to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
