Find eye protection for the Solar Eclipse on August 21

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

On August 21, 70 to 80-percent of the sun will be blocked by the moon at 1:00 pm in the afternoon. Texoma will not see a full eclipse. States from Oregon to South Carolina will be able to see a full eclipse. A partial eclipse is just as rare.

It is important to remember that even though most of the sun will be blocked here in Texoma the UV rays are still damaging to your eyes.

According to the American Optometric Association, these rays can burn your eyes similar to a sunburn on your skin. Too much exposure can lead to the development of cataracts or muscular degeneration.

NASA has produced a list of stores that are selling ISO verified eye wear. The Walmart on Greenbriar is already sold out and they do not plan on restocking.

At 2:00 pm on Wednesday the Walmart on Lawrence only had six left. Below is a list of approved stores in Wichita Falls that are selling the solar eclipse glasses.

  • Kirkland's:  3201 Lawrence Rd Suite 300
  • Lowe's:  3301 Kell E Blvd
  • Toys "R" Us: 2500 E Elliott St
  • Walmart: 2700 Central E Fwy

First Alert Meteorologist Carly Smith has a pin hole projection project you can make to view the eclipse on her Facebook page
