FORESTBURG,TX (KAUZ) -

Our Training Camp Road Trip continues in District 12-1A Div. I with the Forestburg Longhorns! They're one of three Montague county teams with new head coaches this season.

"With my experiences moving around six man, and things like that, I'm really excited about the opportunity at Forestburg this year," said new coach Tommy Tritz.

Coach Tritz takes over a young Longhorns team, but they have a good senior class for him to lean on in his first year with the team.

"The two senior leaders that stand out for sure are Bear Osteen, and J.D. Moore," he said. "Both of those guys, this summer, have been in the weight room every single day that we have been out there, and been pushing the other kids to get out there, and going to pick up guys and coordinating rides and things like that. Things you want your seniors to do."

The Longhorns have a tough non-district schedule that coach Tritz thinks will be good to help his team grow and be ready for district.

"We are going to see a lot of strength," he said. "We are playing Strawn, Gordon, Wichita Falls Notre Dame twice, so we are going to see some quality programs in the preseason that will only help us get better once district comes."

In Coach Tritz's first year he is aiming high for the program. He expects the Longhorns to be right in the mix for the district title and a playoff spot.

"We hope we are right at the top," he said. "We're hoping we are winning the district championship and holding up that gold ball at the end of the year. So that's what we want to do. I know we have traditional successful programs like Bryson and Newcastle that are in there as well as Saint Jo and Gold-Burg. I mean, we can't discount any team out there. But we are hoping that we're at the top. That's going to be our goal, to make the playoffs and a district championship."

The Longhorns will open their season at home against Notre Dame. As coach Tritz said, they'll play the Knights twice this year, home-and-home.

Wednesday at 10, we'll finish our 6-man previews with the Newcastle Bobcats!
