WFPD confirm suspect in officer involved shooting on Wednesday was hit by a bullet

WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) -

The Wichita Falls Police Department has confirmed to Newschannel 6 that the suspect, who was a 'walk off' patient from the North Texas State Hospital in Wichita Falls, was shot in the lower torso one time. 

The suspect was out of surgery as of Thursday morning but his condition is unknown. He is a 29-year-old white man. The WFPD is not releasing his name because the suspect has not been formally charged.

However, the Young County Sheriff, Travis Babcock posted to his Facebook page confirming the suspect is Cody Workman.

The suspect is possibly facing Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and Theft of a Vehicle.

As of Tuesday morning, Workman was still at United Regional Hospital under guard by the WFPD.

WFPD officials have not released information on how the Workman got inside the WFPD unit he later crashed.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid leave and an internal investigation is being conducted. Sgt. Harold McClure said the officer involved has not been interviewed about the incident which is why more details about the incident have not been answered.
