WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Wichita Falls police are investigating a deadly accident on the city's north side.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m. Friday morning, police were called to the 1300 block of North Scott Avenue after a sanitation worker reported a Ford F-250 in a wooded area with an unresponsive person inside, who was later confirmed dead.

The victim was Christopher Ryan Smoak, 27, an Iowa Park resident and U.S. Army veteran.

Police say it appears to be a crash, but it's unknown when the crash occurred.

"It looks like the driver of the vehicle exited, didn't make the turn in 1100 block of North Scott, entered a wooded area, drove a lengthy distance striking several trees," Wichita Falls Police Officer Jeff Hughes said.

The truck then hit a dumpster behind the Shady Lady's Saloon before coming to a stop at a nearby fence. The accident is still under investigation.
