PETROLIA, TX (KAUZ) -

We continue our look at District 7-2A Div. II with the Petrolia Pirates! Head coach Jesse House is in his first season at Petrolia. He came to the Pirates from 2A Somerville and will now try and lead Petrolia to a second straight winning season.

"Its been a great start you know," said head coach Jesse House "Its my first day, I don't know some of the kids, some of the kids I know from the summer workouts.I am getting used to them, putting in a new offense, and defense so a lot of work to do but its been fun."

"Its different we've had the same coaches since we started," said senior linebacker Taylor Colley. "And now we have a whole new coaching staff and they have different practice style and they coach different and its teaching us kind of how they play the game and how we need to."

The Pirates lost some big pieces on offense from last years team including quarterback Dane Williams. Now Macon Armour steps in at QB and everyone is confident he can fill that role.

"Macon our quarterback everybody knows him and respects him," said Colley. "And he's been throwing the ball a long time and he can throw the ball. And the guys that are playing receiver we have chemistry with him we started beginning at pop warner we played with him so its great to have him out there at that position."

"He's been here all summer, he's worked hard we are excited about it." said coach House. "The Williams kid was a really good kid played well but we lost him, but we move on Armour has worked hard all summer and we will put him into action this year."

"Its different whenever you have to come in and now you have to be the big dog," said senior quarterback Macon Armour. "You have to tell guys what you need to do, where you need to go, we need to go fast and its just like a maturity thing. Its being a leader you just got to make sure all the guys are good and make sure everything is going right."

With a new quarterback, a brand new system, and a strong offensive line the Pirates want to be a more balanced offense this year and run the ball more than they did last season.

"We will be balanced we got a really good offensive line," said coach House. "And we are going to ride that this year we will throw the ball enough to keep people honest but we want to be able to run the ball."

The coaching staff and the players want to build off the success they had last season. The pirates believe they have the talent to compete in the district and the seniors want to bring a district title to Petrolia.

"We talked about it today in the locker room," said coach House "Our ultimate goal is a district championship and that's number one this year we set our goal on a district championship and we are going to work toward it all year."

"We're looking towards maybe a district championship bring something new that would be a big big thing in this town," said Armour "If we brought a dc home. And it would be great for the younger kids to follow up on that and think hey we just need a dc then we can go wherever we want to go."
