SAN ANTONIO, TX (KAUZ) - A Texoma district attorney has been named Texas Prosecutor of the Year.
Staley Heatley, the District Attorney of Wilbarger, Hardeman and Foard counties, received the award from the State Bar of Texas and the Texas District and County Attorney Association.
He was honored at the annual criminal and civil law conference in San Antonio September 20.
The award is given every year to a prosecutor who exhibits outstanding service to the criminal justice system by improving the quality of justice through their leadership and efforts to shape and create public policy.
Rob Kepple, executive director of TDCAA, said that "Staley had been a leader in our profession, and an ambassador for our profession. He is an example of an energetic, thoughtful and fair-minded advocate with the dedication and courage to do the right thing. He has earned the respect of his peers."
"It is truly an honor to receive this award from my peers," Heatley said. "I feel very blessed to be able to serve my hometown community as district attorney." I am grateful for the support of my dedicated staff in the DA's office, and for the incredible team that makes Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse successful.
Heatley was elected as the 46th Judicial District Attorney in a contested campaign back in 2006. His term will expire in 2020.
