NOCONA, TX (KAUZ) - Nocona Independent School District could name a new Superintendent at Monday night's school board meeting.
Darren Francis, Region 9 Deputy Executive Director, said they helped the district with its search and had a total of 49 people apply.
Francis said this is one of the largest numbers of applicants they have had for a superintendent position in a while.
He credits the Nocona community and size of the school district for the high response and quality of those interested.
The search comes after the current superintendent, Doctor Vickie Gearheart, announced that she will retire at the beginning of next year.
Superintendent Gearheart was with NISD for 12 years and spent 36 years in education.
She said the size of the applicant pool just goes to show how great of a school system NISD is and that people want to come to Nocona.
The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the NISD Board Room located at 220 Clay Street.
