Changes coming to City of Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The City of Wichita Falls announced three changes in leadership on Wednesday.

Paul Menzies has been hired as the Assistant City Manager. City officials said this position was created following the retirement of Director of Parks and Recreation, Jack Murphy.

Menzies has spent 17 years working in city government in League City, Harlingen, and Kerrville.

Menzies will begin working for the City of Wichita Falls on October 16.

"I'm both humbled and honored to be selected to serve my hometown of Wichita Falls, Menzies said in a press release. I would like to thank the City Council and the City Manager for the opportunity to be a part of an already great team, and I look forward to working with everyone in the community towards the advancement of the City's strategic goals."

Dana Schoening has been hired as the Director of Community Development.

Schoening will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Community Development Department, which includes Building Inspection, Code Enforcement, Section 8 Housing, Neighborhood Resources, Property Management/Lake Lots, and Planning and Zoning.

Schoening has more than two decades of leadership experience and has spent 17 years working for city government.

Schoening will begin working for the city on October 9.

"As a community development professional, I am a committed advocate for communities that build on quality of life opportunities for residents and visitors alike, Schoening said in a statement.  I welcome the opportunity to join the Wichita Falls team to provide assistance in those efforts designed to expand community growth opportunities, increase civic involvement and provide excellence in public service."

The City Manager's Office is also being reorganized. Jim Dockers, Deputy City Manager, will take over the day-to-day oversight of the Parks and Recreation Department.

"The hiring of Paul and Dana, along with the planned management reorganization, will help us fulfill the strategic goals and objectives of the City Council, said Darron Leiker, City Manager in a statement. I am excited to have them join our management team."
