WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Hundreds of workers in Iowa Park are getting a years worth of training thanks to a new grant.
Training actually started last Spring and it will go on until Spring of next year. This will lead to all of them taking home bigger paychecks.
Sealed Air Corporation in Iowa Park has partnered with Vernon college to provide job training in the manufacturing business.
This is all thanks to a half a million dollar grant they received from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Fred Schrock, plant manager, said this grant is important for employees and those looking for training for good-paying jobs.
"As manufacturing progresses in this global economy, the higher level skills become more and more critical to employees success and with the positions we have here there are really not a lot of unskilled labor positions," Schrock said.
A total of 578 employees will benefit from this grant. Training ranges from maintenance technical areas to Microsoft Office applications.
Schrock said Sealed Air has certified medical technicians who also will be getting more training. Once training is complete the workers will be making an average of $21.05 an hour.
Nina Feldman, Director of continuing education, for Vernon College said she is glad to partner with Sealed Air and hopes in the future they can do the same for other companies.
"We are hoping that other companies will see how they can benefit from a grant like this so that we can move forward and help other companies as well," Feldman said.
Vernon college will produce a training video for this class and it will be used for training future employees.
