WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

A Wichita Falls man is behind bars following a foot chase by WFPD on Tuesday night.

Around 9:49 p.m. officers were serving a warrant in the 4800 block of Brookdale when they found the suspect, Darius Lopez, 20, near a dumpster at the apartment complex.

Officers ordered Lopez to stop and he took off running. During the chase, officers said Lopez dropped a clear plastic bag and a black bag.

When police were able to catch Lopez they said he reached into his waistband with both hands.

Officers thought Lopez may have had a weapon so they got a hold of him and turned him around. Police said Lopez was resisting arrest and continuing to reach in his waistband.

When he was finally taken into custody officers said the found a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun in Lopez's waistband area.

The plastic bags he dropped during the chase were also recovered and the contents inside were field tested and came back positive for marijuana.

Lopez was arrested for Unlawful Carrying Weapon, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana in a Drug-Free Zone and Bond Revocation.

Lopez is in the Wichita County Jail on a combined $14,750 bond.
