WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Newschannel 6 crews are on the scene of a shooting near the corner of Monroe Street and Avenue I.

The possible shots-fired call came into the WFPD around 3:24 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Our crews said one white man was taken to the hospital.

Sgt. Harold McClure said the victim was taken to United Regional Health Care Systems to be treated for his injuries. We have been told that his injuries are non-life threatening.

Officials said the victim was shot in his lower extremity which refers to the part of the body from the hip to the toes.

WFPD said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man with dark hair. The suspect is possibly balding. He was wearing a brown shirt and dark shorts.

Officers said he fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Schools in the area went on a brief lockdown but shortly after reopened to dismiss students. Officers responded to Zundy Elementary to ensure students' safety and assist with dismissal.
