WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Newschannel 6 has learned at least two people have thrown their hat in the ring for the Wichita County Treasurer seat.
Tuesday morning current county treasurer, Bob Hampton confirmed to Newschannel 6 he will seek re-election.
Hampton was elected to the position in 2004. The Wichita Falls native is a graduate of Midwestern State University.
Also Tuesday morning, Wichita Fall District Four City Councilor, Jesse Brown announced he will be running for the county seat.
During a press conference on the Wichita County Courthouse front steps Brown said he is running to improve include accountability, fiscal policies and expenditures, and community's economic development.
He said their most recent budget process also played a role in his decision.
"Watching from the outside what transpired over the summer over the budget process here at the county level, I think I can just bring some new ideas and innovative passion to hopefully correct those issues in the future," Brown said.
Brown will be able to serve as city councilor during the election. If he wins the county seat he would have to give up his position on the city council whenever he takes over his new position.
Both Republican nominees will be asking for your vote in the May 2018 primary election.
