WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Bobby Whiteley is a Native Wichitan.
"The city has provided for my family, helped me raise my family," Whiteley said. "I made my living there."
He served over 28 years on the Wichita Falls Fire Department and is currently the First District Vice President of the Texas State Association of Firefighters. Whiteley has also owned his own electrical business since 2003.
He's running for City Councilor At-Large to be part of a city near and dear to his heart. He said he doesn't want to reinvent the wheel, but add to the great things that are going on.
"People in the private industry really move this city forward," Whiteley said. "And we need to do what we can to help them do their job."
"Downtown is never going to be what it used to be," he added. "But it's going to be something different. and it'll be just as good."
But he believes some things need to be changed. One is wages.
"I personally wish there was something we could do," Whiteley said. "And it will be something I'm going to work towards, to try to make our wages a little higher."
Another is improving the economy.
"If construction is moving forward and people are investing in business here, I think it's in the city's best interest to help them get their projects done in a more business-friendly manner," he said.
"I want to give back to the city that's given so much to me and my family," Whiteley continued. "This is an opportunity for me to do that and hopefully make this a better place. And have people as excited about living here as I am."
Whiteley said the city core services, like water and sewer, are very important to him and he wants to provide them in the most cost-efficient way.
Charles Barr, Penny Miller, and Brendan Bell are also running for City Councilor At-Large. The election will be held November 7.
