WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

The Better Business Bureau of North Central Texas helped Texomans fight identity theft Saturday, by shredding documents.

The BBB held their semi-annual fall shredding event in Wichita Falls.

People could bring up to three boxes or bags of documents to get shredded for free.

Cosme Ojeda II, the Vice President of the North Texas chapter of the BBB, says old checkbooks or health documents lying around your home or garbage could be dangerous in the wrong hands.

"The comments that we get is that they haven't thought about this before and they are starting to do it now," he said. "They're thinking about leaving their documents out and they're gearing up every year for our spring and our fall shred event."

For those who missed out on Saturdays event, Ojeda advises people to contact a shredding company to get rid of any document that could help scammers steal you identity.
