WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Four different Midwestern State golfers recorded rounds in the 60s on the opening day of the MSU Invitational Monday at The Wichita Falls Country Club.

One didn't count toward the team score as freshman Conrad Rafferty carded a 4-under 67 in the second round playing as an individual medalist only.

But senior Trip Hobson followed his first round 69 with a 70, while teammates Clayton Keck and Clayton Meyers logged a 67 and 69, respectively, in the second round as MSU posted a 7-under team total of 277 to take control of the tournament with an 8-stroke lead over Texas A&M-Commerce.

The MSU Invitational concludes with a single round on Tuesday. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The Mustangs stood second after posting an opening round 288 (+4), but took advantage of great weather on their home course.

Hobson heads into the final round one stroke off of the pace of Southeastern Oklahoma's Zach James (71-67 138/-4), while Keck (74-67 141/-1) and Meyers (72-69 141/-1) are tied for third.

Junior Chance Craig posted scores of 73 and 71 for a 2-over total of 144 to tie for 15th, while freshman Jake Doggett tied for 50th with scores of 78 and 73 (151/+9).

Rafferty leads a quartet of MSU individual medalist competitors marking an 80 and 67 to tie for 32nd with a 5-over total of 147 followed by juniors Simon Ospina (70-80 150/+8) and Kevin Teems (74-76 150/+8) who are tied for 43rd.

Freshman Tayden Wallin is tied for 65th after posting marks of 75 and 79 for a 12-over total of 154.

Brennan, Mustangs lead at Oklahoma Intercollegiate

Midwestern State freshman Emily Brennan set a program record firing an opening 67 to lead the Mustangs to the top of the leaderboard Monday afternoon in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate played at the par-72, 5,933-yard Fort Sill Golf Course in Lawton, Oklahoma.

The Stoke-on-Trent, England native seven birdies and heads into Tuesday final round tied with Angelo State's Kamryn Cummings at the top of the individual leader board.

The Mustangs also received a strong showing from sophomore Lexi Read, who dominated the Par 4s at 4-under par. The Bridgeport High graduate is tied for fourth with a 2-under 70.

Freshman Juanita Gomez (73/tied for 13th) and senior Sarah Moore (75/tied for 26th) notched the other two team countable scores as the Mustangs closed with a 3-under team total of 285 which is six strokes better than Oklahoma Christian (291/+3).

Tarleton State (292/+4) and Angelo State (293/+5) remain within striking distance.

Freshman Katie Reeves fired a 5-over 77 to tie for 32nd, while freshman Laura Sanchez played an even-par 72 as an individual medalist only to tie for 11th.
