WICHITA FALLS, TX - United Regional Hospital is celebrating 20 years in Wichita Falls.
Cardiology Services Director, Lisa Green started working for Wichita General Hospital in the x-ray lab days after graduating.
"When I graduated from college, I was 22 or 23 years old," said Green. "I was going to (go to) Dallas. I was heading out and leaving this town. Here I am, 27 years later."
She was one of the many people who 20 years ago went through the merge to create what is now United Regional Health Care Systems.
"I think at first it was a little rough, you know, change," said Green. "No one likes change but in the end, we've grown."
It's not every day a hospital turns 20 so this week the hospital is holding a celebration.
"A celebration of who we are and hopefully a celebration of what we have become to our community and our region," said CEO of United Regional, Phyllis Cowling.
She said there is a wide variety of people from new to seasoned employees.
"It's the collection of experience when we come together we have this energy," said Cowling. "It's where the whole is greater than the sum of the part.>
This collection isn't the only thing that has grown in the last two decades.
"The advancements of health care and the ability of health care more than 20 years ago," said Cowling. "Here locally we've added a number of services that were not here 20 years ago."
They wanted to do this so that people that live here wouldn't have to go to a big city for medical treatment. Green said it's her co-workers make this place seem like a family.
"It's the people I worked with for 27 years and people I've worked with for a short amount of time," said Green. "I really enjoy working with all the people."
Cowling said United Regional will be celebrating many more birthdays.
"I think our future is bright the best is yet to come," said Cowling.
United Regional has recently just expanded its services again. A new electrophysiology program was recently rolled out to help heart patients.
