WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The Sheppard Military Affairs Committee recognized the impact Sheppard Air Force Base has on the Wichita Falls Community tonight at the annual dinner.
The Key Note Speaker was Lieutenant General Chris Nowland of the Air Force. He is also spending time at Sheppard during his stay in Wichita Falls.
50% of all pilots in the air force train at Sheppard. The President of SMAC said it is a big deal to have the number 2 rank in the air force in Wichita Falls because he makes a lot of decisions regarding the base.
The dinner tonight allows Air Force leaders to interact with leaders of Wichita Falls.
"It's an opportunity for everybody to socialize, meet and greet outside of the business setting," Barham said. "So everybody is relaxed and just has the opportunity to meet and greet and enjoy each others company."
The most recent impact statement released earlier this year was for 2015 and showed the impact of Sheppard Air Force Base resulted in more than 766 million dollars for the Wichita Falls community. The numbers are important for the local economy.
Barham said tonight was a chance for them to not focus on the numbers and instead spend time getting to know each other.
